Greetings Winter Runners; Week #3

This past Saturday the snow drifts were piled high, completely covering road shoulders and making it impossible to get supply the Mile 2 and Mile 4 Water Stops.  I hope everyone either took it as a sign from Mom Nature to take the day off, or move your workout inside.  Some of us shifted our run to Sunday and had a good run – 35-40 degrees but clear.

Wednesday Track Session -   START 6:00pm  The AHS track is clear but still dark.  If you plan to go to the AHS track – REPLY ALL, and at least I will be there. Otherwise plan on doing your speed session on the treadmill or on a clear residential road.  It may be easier to use time instead of distance as the measure.  Do 3 x 1200 (3 laps w/1 lap recovery) + 4 x 100 (20 sec recovery)  repeats  with 1 mile recovery.

Saturday Run –  ***START AT 7:00am. ****  This Saturday has a 14 mile easy run; 7 miles for Half Marathoners.   There will be contingent of our group, including myself, doing the PHUNT 50K Trail Run on Saturday.

Sunday Trail Run –Start at 9:00 am for one loop of the AHS trail.  Gaye and I ran them today and there were a few icy spots, and a few muddy spots, but still very runable – go for it :-)

Greetings Spring Runners; Week #2

Winter running has arrived with a bang THIS year!  No time for gradually getting used to dressing properly, breathing in the cold, adequate footing and run routes – just WHAM!  I suspect some of you decided this was a sign to take it easy and focus on getting the holiday shopping done, and getting in a little more sleep – others of you I know took it as a personal challenge – ‘Mom Nature will NOT prevent me from my appointed workout”.  Whichever approach you took (are taking) I highly recommend M-O-D-E-R-A-T-I-O-N.  This is a time, as I said last week, for exercise , not  training (unless you have an early race date). Take time for family, socializing, and relaxing, but don’t become a couch potato.  It should be motivation enough to think about how much harder it will be to get back in shape in the spring.

Wednesday Track Session -   START 6:00pm  The AHS track was not clear of snow so plan on doing you speed session on the treadmill.  It may be easier to use time instead of distance as the measure.  Do 2 x 400 (1 min recovery) + 5 x 100 (20 sec recovery)  repeats  with 1 mile recovery.

Saturday Run –  ***START AT 7:00am. ****  This Saturday has a 14 mile easy run.

Sunday Trail Run –Start at 9:00 am for one loop of the AHS trail. If we can determine the trail is clear enough to run.

Greetings Winter Runners; Week #1

The run this past Saturday was the first (for me, anyway) run in running tights.  Winter is here.  You can see the photo of the group just before we started our run – temperature at 21 degrees.  It was good to see Jim Le Clare (and there was a little ‘more’ of him to see J ).  Some of us opted for a change of pace for our run and went out to the 2 Mile Stop, came back and took a detour at the Dept of Agriculture and did a loop of the AHS trails – nice crunchy, frozen, trails.

Wednesday Track Session -   START 6:00pm  This will be a typical session over the winter – not too long or intensive but tailored to keep the speed up.. Do 4 x 400 + 4 x 100  repeats  with 1 lap recovery.

Saturday Run –  ***START AT 7:00am. **** This week will be a repeat of last week; 10 to 12 miles EASY.

Sunday Trail Run
–Start at 9:00 am for one loop of the AHS trail.

Greetings Spring Runners; Week #33

The run this past Saturday was a real test of fortitude – rainy and chilly all day.  Well done to Tom N, Tom G., Susan Schweers , Willie Gumula and anyone else I did not see out there.

****Great turnout for the get-together at AUSTIN’s Grill.  Lot’s of cool  race bling medals and stories.  Myles Powers was recognized as traveling the farthest to run a ‘marathon’ in Argentina.  Tom Nelson’s ceramic medal for BIG SUR was very cool and Barbara Hamilton’s SEATTLE marathon story was great – tough day, but another one in the books J  Michael Powers, Lara Mish, and Kevin Mish were there with their first JFK 50 Mile Run hat’s and medals.  If you could not make it, go ahead and send my your marathon/etc. story to share.
