Thank you for your enthusiasm and support.
Friends of Sudan is a non-profit organization aimed at improving the standard of living in the war torn area of South Sudan. A twenty-two year Civil War has devastated the villages of Southern Sudan leaving the people in need of many basics. Adequate food, clean water, medicine, and education are unavailable for most village men, women, and children.
Four years ago, Jim and Lorraine Hiskey introduced a group of friends from Annapolis, Maryland to a group of young refugees from South Sudan. They had spent most of their childhood living in refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya away from their families. These young men and women were given the political name "The Lost Boys and Girls of Sudan". They came to the United States through the efforts of the United Nations and charitable organizations. Our community of friends, amazed at their faith and resilience, fell in love and opened their hearts to several of the "Lost Boys".
Today our young friends from Sudan are going to college with hopes they will help their country rebuild and improve the quality of life for those still living in their home villages. Friends of Sudan hopes to partner with our Sudanese friends in their efforts to rebuild their home villages and restore hope and prosperity to their families and friends in South Sudan while sharing the love of Jesus Christ.
Ciec Community
Ciec is an area in South Sudan. The word "Ciec" in the tribal language of Dinka means bee swarm. It refers to unity and group work the bee swarm does on a daily basis. Ciec consist of twelve villages in one of the poorest areas of South Sudan. The Ciec Community (CCDA) wants to restore the meaning of Ciec by partnering together with Friends of Sudan to restore the lives of the villagers in the Ciec Community and beyond.
